TAL Joint Venture Discovers Gas at Bilitang-1 Well in KP’s Kohat

Gas-OGDCL

ISLAMABAD: TAL Joint Venture (JV), comprising leading exploration and production companies, has announced a gas discovery at its exploratory well Bilitang-1, located in District Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the JV disclosed that the discovery was made by MOL Pakistan Oil & Gas Co. B.V., the operator of the TAL Block, holding a 10 per cent working interest. The remaining partners include Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) with a 30 per cent stake, Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) 30 per cent, Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL) 25 per cent, and Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL) with a 5 per cent interest.

According to the notice, the Bilitang-1 exploratory well was spudded on August 10, 2025, and successfully drilled to a target depth of 4,011 metres true vertical depth (TVD).

Based on the interpretation of logging-while-drilling (LWD) and wireline log data, the Hangu and Lumshiwal formations — the primary exploratory targets — were initially tested successfully. The well flowed gas at a rate of 1.58 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) on a 40/64-inch choke, with a wellhead flowing pressure of 164 pounds per square inch (psi).

The JV said the discovery has de-risked further exploration prospects in the TAL Block, opening up new upside opportunities. It is also expected to contribute to improving Pakistan’s energy security by adding indigenous gas supplies and enhancing the country’s hydrocarbon reserves base, benefiting PPL, its joint venture partners, and the national energy portfolio.
